X-Alps Weather Forecast for Aosta region Friday 20th June 25

Summary - Fly away fast or get caught by the rain

Instability and potential rain will effect the southern Alps, across all the way to the TP11.

Humid air from North Italy will arrive with an impact in the Aosta region.

Thermals will start working from 10.30, but soon they will evolve to clouds. The cloud base will drop at 15.00 around the Aosta region and shower clouds are expected to have an impact on the strategies the pilots will have to follow. It seems that the most effective line will pass north from the region, offering a couple of more flying hours for the first pilots, while the pilots behind will be able to run faster in the Northern side of the mountains in their way to TP10 and will reduce their gap with the first.

The barometer at 1011, dropping from yesterday and humidity at 50% in the Northern areas and 75% in the Aosta valley. The air density will decrease and thermals will be relatively weak in the south east of TP 10.

North from Aosta valley, very few clouds, potentially very high - above 4000m, while to the direction to Itally the clouds will gradually appear with a varying cloudbase of 3000 close to Aosta and more clouds are expected to the Italian side with a base of 2400 and 2100 in the Torino plateau.

High clouds and Low clouds will create a coverage of 20-30%.

Inversion levels of 1800 and 2600 wil have an impact on thermals behavior.

Lift is expected arount 2m/s below 1400m and +2,7m/s at 1600, +3,2 at 1700m and 4,2 m/s at 2100m.

Ideal thermal zone between 1800 and 2600m.
