X-Alps Weather Forecast Zugspitze to Zelamsee
Summary - So...it is now or never!
The local frontal type mountain conditions coming from the South Alps have been relieved.
Tomorrow conditions will improve. However a long and strong cold front is approaching from the North West, running fast over the plains of Germany and France and will impact the next days weather. I guess that pre-frontal flying conditions will be good!
Humidity drops, light north winds <10kph at all altitudes, high cloud bases (3000+m), cloud streets above high ground, lift up to 3100m above mountains but 2500m above lower areas, create a high potential condition to reach Goal by evening.
Initially the conditions around Zugspitze will start organizing at 11.30, with thermals becoming stronger above 1900m. Cu clouds will appear with an early cloud base of 2700, but later in the day will reach 3300-3400m, maybe higher above mountain tops. Cloud tops are not expected to be more than 500m+ cloud bases.
After 14.30h long cloud streets are expected to organize above high ground to the east line. A small gap in the cloud streets 30km east of Innsbruck but again other Cu cloud streets will appear reaching Zel Am See starting again east of Zillertal area.
The conditions will be different in three parts. The fist part from Zugspitze will have high cloud bases an enough instability for thermals (DT=10 C). The second part is from Innsbruck to Zillertal area mountains where the conditions will have less humid air , less clouds and will be more stable. In the last part of 75km to the goal, the conditions will be better until late, as the Barometer will slightly increase and thermals will be more powerful. Cloud streets will be there again until Zel Am See, and at cloud base there will be west winds<10km making the last part very nice after Zillertal corner!
Average XC Speed calculated to 36kph.
